American Military History

Except for Chapters 27 and 28, which have been considerably revised, this edition is essentially a reprint of the 1969 version. … As of the time this manuscript goes to press, the final chapter on the Army’s role in Vietnam remains unwritten.

It is of course especially difficult to write the history of a war not yet over, but Chapter 28, covering the action through the end of 1967, does reflect the research and on-the-spot observation of several able historians whose personal and professional views of the war are by no means uniform.
